Ken Davids with Coffee Review just gave the Wilmer Delgado micro lot a 91! "Explosive aromatics...deep, rich, buttery and honey-like with suggestions of flowers, coffee fruit, fresh-tanned leather. In the cup the butter notes turn rather pungent, toward butterscotch with continued flowers and a fruit that softens toward milk chocolate."

Wilmer is 28 years old. He is married with Nandy Consuelo Garzon 25 yars old), with whom he has 1 child (Karen Dahiana Delgado), which is just one year old. Hector is a member of “ASPROSOT”, an association of small coffee growers from the municipality of Sotara.

The farm is located at approximately 1,810 m.a.s.l. (6,100 ft) and has a total of 6 hectares in extension, of which 4 hectares are grown with coffee. Nevertheless, he currently only has one hectare in production, with 5,000 Caturra trees grown. Of the remaining three hectares in coffee that he has, one hectare is currently pruned, another hectare was planted with new trees one year ago and should start producing coffee the next harvest (May 2008) and another hectare is ready to start planting new trees. All of that is also Caturra. He some shade trees, including Guamos, Tambor, Oranges, Mandarines, Avocados and Plantain.

Wilmer bought the farm from his father in 2004. Wilmer’s wife, his father, brothers and sisters work help with the farm work. He dries his coffee in a parabolic dryer and all his coffee is washed and fermented for 14 to 16 hours. He does composting to reduce the amount of chemical fertilizers used in his farm.
